Types of Braces

There are four types of braces: traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, invisible braces and lingual braces. Traditional and ceramic braces work by using brackets that are bonded to the teeth and, combined with metal arch wires, guide the teeth into better position. Made of high-grade stainless steel brackets, traditional metal braces vary only in the color options afforded by the elastics, or rubber bands, used. Our patients tell us that they love choosing their school colors and seasonal/holiday color combinations.

Some patients prefer more aesthetically appealing ceramic braces. These use clear brackets applied only to the upper front teeth. These are most often chosen by adult patients.

Invisalign is an effective orthodontic treatment that is virtually invisible to others. A series of clear, removable plastic aligners, tailored to each patient, is used to gradually shift the patient’s teeth.

Convenient and comfortable, lingual braces are fixed-in-place orthodontic corrective braces that are hidden.
